Rehabilitation

Making steady progress: that’s what rehabilitation is all about, whether you’re recovering after surgery or coping with impairment. United Helpers offers inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy for people of all ages at our Canton and Ogdensburg facilities. Respiratory therapy is also available on an inpatient basis. For every patient, the goal is to help people reach their full potential by working with experts who apply proven rehabilitation techniques.physical therapy

Available therapies

  • Physical Therapy — Our therapists offer support for sports injuries; post-surgical rehabilitation; advanced vestibular rehabilitation; and balance and strengthening services. When it comes to post-hospital therapy, in particular, we start with a care team to help patients get from rehabilitation to home quickly.

  • Occupational Therapy — Physical, psychological, or cognitive impairment can have many causes, from stroke to mental illness, surgery, head trauma, or lengthy hospital stays. No matter the severity of impairment, we start with an evaluation and personalized treatment plan built around personal goals for improving a patient’s ability to live their daily lives to the fullest.

  • Speech Therapy — Speech therapy services address the management of disorders of speech, language, communication and swallowing in children and adults. Services begin with a personalized evaluation that evolves into a treatment plan with the patient’s personal goals in mind.

  • Respiratory Therapy—Respiratory therapy services enhance the quality of life through treatment for conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchitis, and congestive heart failure (CHF). Inpatient services include spirometry, pulmonary function testing, education, and treatments to maximize pulmonary function, improve endurance, and manage symptoms.

A team of experts, a personal connection

It takes more than skill to help patients achieve their goals—it takes heart. Our therapists have both. They understand the physical and emotional obstacles people often face as they work on gaining ground. When you turn to our team, you’ll find know-how backed by understanding, patience, and tireless encouragement.

As the field of physical therapy evolves, we make sure our team is trained in the most effective treatments. We have staff certified in several specialty areas, from stroke therapy to pregnancy therapy. There are licensed professionals who understand the intricacies of conditions such as:

  • Neck, back, and shoulder pain
  • Hip and knee replacement
  • Sports injuries
  • Post-surgical challenges

We can help you or your loved one improve balance and strength through our specialty in vestibular rehabilitation. Or help you tackle chronic conditions such as tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, recovery from a stroke with advanced hand therapy.

Plus, the medical services team at our rehabilitation centers includes a Nurse Practitioner who encourages high-quality care by managing sudden or ongoing medical conditions. Catching problems early and intervening can reduce hospitalizations and help residents maintain a higher state of well-being.

Still, the best relationship you can have is one on one. That’s why you’ll work closely with your assigned therapist, and they’ll get to know you and follow your progress, so you can recover faster.

Stepping Stones for children

We also provide a variety of children's services tailored to their needs like physical and speech therapy along with nutritional guidance. Open to children of all ages.

Inpatient or Outpatient?

Depending on the nature of your challenge, you may choose to receive therapy services as an outpatient. Otherwise, our inpatient accommodations—well-appointed therapy suites—ensure a comfortable stay and a more regularly-timed treatment plan.
